Among the rest were a few plant and flower shots I liked, so it came down to one question: which will be the most difficult to replicate? The clear answer was this shot of another skipper on the still-beautiful white chrysanthemum in our back yard garden. While the flowers still look great, I like the splashes of purple in the background and I challenged myself to identify this skipper, since I totally miss-ID’ed the Clouded Skipper from three days ago, http://365project.org/rhoing/365/2012-10-22
I was pretty sure this is a Fiery Skipper, which — yeah, I know — aren’t very “fiery” on the underside of their wings. Their “fiery-ness” is found entirely on the upper side of their wings.
