Well *this* was an ordeal

(I had just finished typing the description for this post and hit [Save all Uploads] when my internet went out. By the time it was restored, any semblance of a cached version of the “Organize Uploads” page was gone, so here I am reconstructing.) [whine-whine-whine…]

Shot 23 frames today, 9 of an Eastern Carpenter Bee, “Xylocopa virginica virginica,” http://bugguide.net/node/view/717701
Among the rest were a few plant and flower shots I liked, so it came down to one question: which will be the most difficult to replicate? The clear answer was this shot of another skipper on the still-beautiful white chrysanthemum in our back yard garden. While the flowers still look great, I like the splashes of purple in the background and I challenged myself to identify this skipper, since I totally miss-ID’ed the Clouded Skipper from three days ago, http://365project.org/rhoing/365/2012-10-22
I was pretty sure this is a Fiery Skipper, which — yeah, I know — aren’t very “fiery” on the underside of their wings. Their “fiery-ness” is found entirely on the upper side of their wings.

Confirmed at BAMONA as Hylephila phyleus (family, Hesperiidae; subfamily, Hesperiinae) or “Fiery Skipper”; http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/sighting_details/746392

Those flowers are gorgeous. Nice job catching the skipper taking drink.
