Last weekend I posted a photo of a Common Buckeye — “Junonia coenia,” http://365project.org/rhoing/365/2012-11-04 — noting that she allowed me to approach quite closely. A couple days later, she was on the same flower in the same position. Hmmm… Yes, it was the end of the line for her, and here’s one last shot of her. With flash. :)
As MaryBeth says, there is nothing common about the Common Buckeye species: They are beautiful. Alas, they’re just not “built” for this climate.
