Patterns & textures

Back in the cactus room. If I’m going to post in B&W, then I’m looking for patterns and textures over color and there’s no better place for that than the cactus room! I don’t know what species this is — there isn’t enough “information” in the image! — but in contrast to many, many of its roommates, this one has a flat top. I think I used a close-up filter for this shot.

Uncertain Echinopsis (Echinopsis hertrichiana?)

Anyone want to guess the primary function of a cactus’s “spikes” or thorns?

@espyetta I got some great color shots in the greenhouse today, but I'm going to be disciplined and finish out the month in B&W! Wow; a FAV for a B&W cactus shot! Thanks, MaryBeth!

@espyetta As Rick has commented, I am very fortunate to have the greenhouse handy. Most days I park so that the greenhouse is between my car and my office! With hundreds of species of plants, it's like shooting fish in a barrel!
