Although we have final exams this week, Friday was the welcomed end of classes for the semester. This weekend I’ve spent a bit of time trying to identify some of the flowers in my photos on my own.
» Also, MaryBeth, a wolf spider in our kitchen this weekend; I submitted three shots to bugguide[dot]net for identification: http://bugguide.net/node/view/767284
This cluster of flowers is from a large shrub that I’m guessing is Spiraea (Rosaceae, the Rose family). We’ve had several days of rain and it was drizzling when I shot this. I’d hoped to get a clear shot of the refracted image in the water drop, but I’m pleased with the effect of how these flowers are hanging down from a central point, like spokes on a wheel.

If I saw a WOLF spider, I'd FLIP out and scream! They are scary to me! No pic of one though, Thom? did it get away before you could get out the camera? The blossosms in this pic are pretty and I like the symmetry.... it is rain, rain, raining here, but we love it! We ahve had years of drought, so we are into the rain! The lake is over filled to start the long summer of letting the water out of the hydroelectric dam for AC to all the Atlantans.... I am loving the COOL temps too. We are usually ROASTING at this point in the school year!
@espyetta Nope; it didn't get away. In fact, I kept it at hand for quite a while. Here are the three shots I thought better than the rest: http://bugguide.net/node/view/767284. I need help photo'ing a dark spider indoors where light is needed. I tried flash. Bounced flash. Holding it under an Ott-Lite (in a dish). Just don't know the secret!
