Pipevine Swallowtail

Went to an intriguing presentation today by an [undergraduate] alumnus of our department. He has two patents supporting a highly-rated small business that began with an idea he had for a term paper many years ago. It’s an investment company that is online-only: https://jockbrokers.com/
Customers “invest” in professional athletes, but it is not “gambling.” Indeed, the FCC allows this business to operate in all 50 states and across state lines. (I’m not a financial wizard, so I don’t understand all the ins-and-outs; if I were and if I did, would I still be working at age 57?)

I didn’t get any really good photos of Justin Baggott, President of JockBrokers.com, so today I have to settle for the best photo I’ve ever taken of a Pipevine Swallowtail.

It turns out I have precious-few Pipevine Swallowtail encounters and photographs. Again, as with my Black Swallowtail a few days ago, http://365project.org/rhoing/365/2013-09-17
I wasn’t certain what I had until I started to look at images in my field guide and at BAMONA! Isn’t the blue around the orange spots gorgeous?

Confirmed at BAMONA as Battus philenor or “Pipevine Swallowtail”; http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/sighting_details/931113

Confirmed at BugGuide as Hodges#4157 Battus philenor or “Pipevine Swallowtail” (and probably a male); http://bugguide.net/node/view/846869

One year ago (“Humility”): http://365project.org/rhoing/365/2012-09-24
Two years ago at Craftsbury (“Scullers’ paradise!”): http://365project.org/rhoing/365/2011-09-24
