Back in the greenhouse

Post #747 — http://365project.org/rhoing/365/2013-01-11 — was “Not everything in the greenhouse is ‘pretty’!” It was a different sort of shot and so is this one of the same species of plant. This is a new “frond” or branch (and I’m sure there’s a technically-correct name I’m not using) for the plant
“Zamia furfuracea” (family Zamiaceae). Because it apparently has a growth habit that is sufficiently similar to that of palm trees (family Arecaceae), it has several common names with “palm,” notably “Cardboard palm.”

Some of these plants have been commercially exploited in the U.S. and appear on the USDA’s threatened and endangered list for Florida — http://plants.usda.gov/java/threat?statelist=states&stateSelect=US12
