In the rose family, “Chaenomeles lagenaria” or “Flowering quince.”

Not *in* the greenhouse, but actually across a service road *from* the greenhouse. Today it was “on fire” in the bright, afternoon sun. Didn’t take many photos in the greenhouse as I was in a hurry to get home and get started on Clare’s birthday cake … and the homemade buttercream frosting. (Yeah, the cake is kind of just the “vehicle” that delivers the homemade frosting.)

Photo taken using the “macro” setting on my point-and-shoot, Nikon AW110, on the campus of Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Pretty good close-up detail for a P&S, I think.

You made Clare's cake! You are multi-talented, Thom! You shoot photos, you row, you are a math expert, and a baker. What can you NOT do? haha

And it's only beginning. I cannot wait to get some color back in our yard
