Queen Anne’s Lace

Other common names for “Daucus carota” are “wild carrot,” “bird’s nest” and “bishop's lace.” It is a flowering plant in the family Apiaceae. A paternal great-grandfather had a farm in south-eastern Michigan where this wildflower or weed grew. Even now, seeing this plant takes me back to that farm every time I see a patch.

According to the USDA web site, http://plants.usda.gov/core/profile?symbol=daca6 »
» My native state of Michigan considers this plant to be a “noxious weed.”
» Ohio labels it a “Prohibited noxious weed.”
» Iowa labels it a “Secondary noxious weed.”

A happy 7th anniversary to those who were married 7 years ago today … on 07/07/07! (Actually, I think we attended a wedding that day for the classmate of a friend of our younger daughter. Happy 7th Robbie & Katie!)

Speaking of calendars, have you seen the email about 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays in August 2014 and it’s a phenomenon that won’t occur again for 823 years? It’s obviously false; check out May 2015 and August 2025. PC/Windows users can use the little time-and-date feature in their system tray (lower-right corner of screen). Who starts these things but perhaps more interestingly, *WHY*? Is it a mass gullibility test?
