“The Homecoming” by rhoing

“The Homecoming”

By sculptor Nathan Scott, http://www.sculpturebynathanscott.com/public-commissions---bronze-sculptures.html

Today we were in picturesque Victoria all day,* seeing the city by bicycle. But trying to do more than just take “pretty photographs,” this is my post for today. The “live” subject is a member of our tour group, the only Canadian among us and our “fourth” for dinner this evening at The Clay Pigeon, http://claypigeonrestaurant.com/
We encountered this plaza on the inner harbor on our meandering walk back to the hotel from dinner.

Do not be fooled by the elegance and white hair. This is quite an intrepid woman! She’s had quite a life, is still living it actively and she enriched the experience for all us “yanks”! (Yes, both she and Clare’s mom cycled all day with us Monday in Vancouver, today in Victoria, canoed Tuesday and will be kayaking tomorrow.) But I digress.

What makes this photo so compelling for me is *her* relating that this could be her welcoming *her* dad back from his time in the service. This piece probably “took her back” … hence the smile.

* The forgone “pretty photographs”—
• Our bike tour began at the bike shop … which is adjacent to the Victoria Seaplane Terminal on the inner harbor, so I have photos of planes taxiing to the terminal (gorgeous blue sky and shimmery blue water).
• I took a photo of our bike tour leader’s strategy for locking 5 bicycles together at Fisherman’s Wharf, which was an interesting (and colorful) stop on our tour of the city, so here were more colorful photos of boats-in-the-harbor.
• I took several flower photos at Emily Carr’s home…
• *Several* photos of, and from, Craigdarroch Castle, http://thecastle.ca/
• Several photos at the restaurant where Clare, Mom, another member of our group and I had a wonderful dinner on our own, apart from the group.
• Sunset photos across the inner harbor.

A great photo, and I like that you included the human touch with it. She sounds like quite the Lady
