Vancouver to Victoria, BC

Today we flew from Vancouver to Victoria … in a seaplane! It was the first-ever such trip for most of the folks among our Road Scholar tour group (including our group leader).

I have much to learn about shooting video, but I just have to post this for today as this was a highlight of the trip. The video was shot from inside a 12-seat, single-engine aircraft so you may want to turn down the volume! The aircraft is a DeHavilland DHC III Turbine Otter. There is a nice video of a plane like this one taking off from the same location … a video shot from the outside: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4ASOrxjuGQ

As it happened, a member of our group is a licensed pilot. For purposes of distributing weight, someone has to sit in the co-pilot’s seat, so our cardiologist/pilot was able to ride “shotgun.” It was the highlight of the trip for him!

The wooded area is Stanley Park; the lighthouse: Brockton Point Lighthouse; the bridge: Lions Gate Bridge.

Wonderful! Must have been a fantastic trip. At least you knew to make it horizontal! :-)

That's very cool! I have only taken the ferry across. It must be beautiful by plane.

Nice job Thom. It gave us a nice idea of what it was like

@danette Yeah, I made that "vertical" mistake the first few times I used the video capabilities on a P&S! Thanks for noticing, Danette!
