Eastern Pondhawk (♂) on a very sad day…

All of my frames were shot in the morning today. Clare & I received news at noon that a good friend passed away yesterday. Ruptured aorta despite an active lifestyle and no history. Age, 57 (my junior). Clare knew Larry since 8th grade and Ellen since 9th grade.

Ellen & Larry met during the planning of their 5-year high school reunion and were married a year later. Married 32 years and became grandparents for the first time this year. We've exchanged the same anniversary card with them for 20 years » http://365project.org/rhoing/365/2013-12-29

Confirmed at BugGuide as “Erythemis simplicicollis” or “Eastern Pondhawk”; http://bugguide.net/node/view/1116116

Wow, so young, and with that medical emergency you do not know when it could occur. Often times there are no symptoms until it happens. Sorry about your loss

So sorry for your loss Thom, it sounds like you shared a wonderful friendship.

Beautiful dragonfly capture, with their incandescent wings they are like angels on earth.
