Digital scale, deconstructed

This scale was dropped and ceased to be reliable, so it has been replaced. Curious, I took it apart. Not surprisingly, it's a fairly simple device. Essentially, it's a spring inside a box with some mechanism or means of communicating to the user how much force is being applied to the spring. Both elements are attached to the base, on the left.

The spring is in the circular housing at the bottom-center of the base and an LCD display is the rectangular element at the top-center. They're connected by a data cable. Yeah, a[nother] pretty-lame post…

I've never thought about how a scale works, and it's interesting!
