“Ken”

My friend, Ken. A better man than I for sticking with teaching many more years at the university than I lasted. Ken teaches writing and Victorian British literature in the Department of English. We have sat together in the faculty section at commencement at least a couple of times over the years and we're both regulars at the Student Recreation Center, where we also have many interesting and worthwhile conversations about things that matter.

But tonight Ken was the speaker before a special screening of the first hour of PBS' new mini-series, "Victoria." In the absence of a written program telling us the background of all the "players," Ken provided the background on Victoria, Lord Melbourne, Sir John Conroy and Victoria's mum. I appreciated the background and context, Ken. I know very little — let's be honest, I know virtually nothing — about 19th century British history.

Thank you for your friendship, Ken!

@taffy @frankhymus Thanks, Taffy & Frank. He's an intelligent, kind person I'd like to know better.
