Thursday of our week in Northumberland was busy - we spent the morning on the island of Lindisdfarne, which I didn't enjoy, then had a fantastic walk in the afternoon around St Cuthbert's Cave. There was a lot of wildlife to be seen including yellowhammers, kestrels and beetles in the process of clearing up a dead shrew. We saw a couple of hares and whilst taking a photo of this one, a young male pheasant emerged from the hedge and kind of photobombed me - it stood for the photo then went back into the hedge!

I thought Lindisfarne was just too touristy and there's not a lot there really, aside from people! There's a castle which was so busy there was no room to move, a priory ruin, a church and a museum but none of it interested me particularly. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I was religious or if I hadn't gone in one of the busiest school holidays. If you're interested, there are photos of the place in my blog, linked above.
It looks like a beginning of a story. I loved Lindisfarne and I'm not the slightest bit religious. I visited on a cool misty day in late spring before the tourist season got going. Hardly anyone was there. Circumstances have a lot to do with how you feel about a place.
@catwoman2
I think it was largely due to it being such a busy time on the island. I'd definitely have liked it more if it was so busy! Ultimately though, I'm the kind of girl who rather be in a field with hare, pheasants and bugs than looking at old religious buildings or castles!
Oh wow, what a great photo opportunity - an excellent shot. I love hares, they're one of my favourite animals. I've often noticed them hanging out with pheasants; there's probably some kind of secret friendship between the two species. :) Ha.
I'm sorry to hear you didn't enjoy Lindisfarne, I'm a major history buff and have been wanting to visit for years and years - I'll make sure to avoid visiting during the busy school holidays, though!
