The 9th was my 30th birthday and we spent most of the day in Chillingham visiting the castle and the cattle park, and also visited Bamburgh Castle. The Chillingham Cattle have lived, enclosed on the estate, completely wild for 800 years - no human contact at all, no vets, no immunisation or anything. They are fabulous animals and one of the rarest on earth, as there are about 130 of them in total. You can read the very interesting facts about the cattle on my blog if you're interested but I'd recommend a visit to this place if you go to Northumberland.
Lovely pictures and interesting info about the cattle and the castle on your blog. Hope they survive! A very happy belated birthday too. Felt sad after reading about your birthday, that's tough. My husband isn't bothered about birthdays for himself and never wants anything but he does at least understand my family has always made it a special day as we were growing up. We make a special effort for the children. I don't get valentine or wedding anniversary cards/presents though which always makes me a bit sad!! Keep hoping, he may realise one day x
Happy belated birthday! Wow, I wasn't aware of these wild cattle; awesome to see. It seems weird to me that they've been allowed to live wild on the estate for so long, though - I'd have thought that, if they weren't producing meat or milk, then they wouldn't have had a use. It's pretty cool that they've survived this long, in that case!

Thank you. The cattle were originally enclosed there, along with deer and boar, for sport. All the animals were kept wild to make the hunting more exciting. Their story is really interesting, do see the blog post to find out more about them, it's well worth a visit if you are nearby one day! http://roachling.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/the-wild-cattle-of-chillingham.html
