Penalty notice

I love this old sign in the hamlet where I grew up. It's one of the old railway signs and reads 'Any person who omits to shut and fasten this gate is liable to a penalty not exceeding forty shillings.'

This is a gate to a private property so we didn't even open it! It's not enforced, the sign is just for fun/decoration!
