We spent today in ancient woodland where we had a great day amongst the bugs and birds. I was able to get close to this hornet I spotted close to the ground. It had a torn wing so couldn't fly and seemed pretty wobbly so I don't think it would have survived much longer after I saw it. A few days later we found a whole hornets nest in an old, hollow ash tree, with hornets flying in and out :)
