Unshackle Earthly Bonds

Found this cicada nymph climbing an Oak and had to get a classic metamorphosis shot. She made it through OK even with an injured antennae leaking some haemolymph. I may put together a sequence collage later. I think this is Tibicen chiricahua, an annual cicada.
Very cool

Excellent! Lucky you to catch this moment...I always miss it. Had a mourning cloak hatching...only reason I caught it was because it was stuck and I ended up freeing the abdomen but the wings had already dried in a backwards position and not fully extended. It lived 3-4 days on my fuschia plant.

I do love the cicadas actually. To me August = cicada song. Best part of summer.
