Red bellied companion by robz

Red bellied companion

Zoe and I met this fellow on our morning walk. He was quite calm - even as Zoe sniffed his tail before I realized he was there! About 5 ft long, nice and shiny but not very fat, and missing a few scales.
Whoa.... funny how the sight of a snake (even just in a picture) makes the heart skip a tiny beat. Darn creatures are eerie in that first second! I find them very amusing after I've adjusted to their presence tho. Amazing black eyes. Great capture!

Thanks for the very nice compliment paid to my red tulip picture and the effort put into creating it. That made me smile.

@lyndemc Hi Denise - I do appreciate your encouragement and find your photos truly inspiring. I realize my little camera has limitations but if I can master all that it does do and improve my skills enough to use all that it offers I will be happy with my new hobby. And my daughter has just given me a Digital Image Suite that she wasn't using! Sounds like many hours of fun. The little red belly was very entertaining - but I must admit I was a good distance from him when I took his photos! Thanks again Cheers.

Poisonous?????

Hi Sherry - yes they are poisonous. However, they are very placid and do not usually attack unless very severely provoked. Most people who are bitten have been trying to kill them! or have accidentally stood on them. We are happy to have them on our property as they prey on Brown snakes - which are nasty, aggressive and very poisonous.
