Combination landscape. by robz

Combination landscape.

We are heading to Tasmania for a few weeks. Driving south from Stanthorpe took us through the New England Tableland. The early settlers cleared large tracts of native forest and planted large numbers of exotic trees. The resulting landscape is quite different to the areas we are used to.
Reminds me of The Shire in Lord of the Rings. All green hills and gorgeousness. This looks quite English actually!

Nice landscape...I like how the lines work..the trees on the right balancing the hills, the lines of the trees taking my eyes to the hills...so well composed.! Good eye

@casablanca I totally agree with you - it is very English-there are even willow trees along the creeks. Very picturesque. :)

@granagringa Hi Madeline - thanks for your compliment on the composition. The whole drive was through this sort of country - very pretty. This was taken from the window - even caught some ICM action in the front LOL

Hmmm... silly American that I am I thought all the trees in Australia were already exotic! Haha at least to me they are! Pretty view.

I find the areas planted with exotic trees very strange to my eyes. Not a fan of pines and cypress. Make an exception for native species though.

I was there all too briefly and would love to return for a photo trip. I watched an Australian series that took place there -- Kettering Incident -- and it makes Tasmania seems so exotic and mysterious!

@taffy Hi Taffy - it does have a fascinating history - some of it pretty gruesome. As you probably remember from your trip it is also absolutely beautiful in many different ways. We're really looking forward to our trip. We'll be going to Kettering - it's where you get the ferry to Bruny Island - famous for food, wine and seafood. Woohoo! Cheers for now Rob Z

@golftragic It is very English - or Scottish - in Glen Innes we saw locals wearing kilts and boots etc!! I must agree with you in that I like to see the natives.

@olivetreeann That's so funny Ann - exotic is as you see it!! I guess it is a funny word to use... This photo gives a good impression of the difference between an Aussie forest - the dark area on one side of the hill - and an English forest - the evergreens at the front. The pioneers obviously missed their own forests!!! Cheers
