The Tamar Valley near Launceston Tasmania. by robz

The Tamar Valley near Launceston Tasmania.

Old growth forests in the Tamar Valley often have extensive stands of extremely old tree ferns. Some of these must be hundreds of years old as they are hosts to rainforest trees which germinated in the moist, hairy trunks. These trees can now be full sized rainforest monsters.
Awesome vegetation.

So tropical! Somehow I always think of Tasmania as being a bit cooler as it further south.

@kiwinanna Hi Liana - it is beautiful - maybe the cold climates of both areas have the similar vegetation. We loved N.Z. the one time we visited. :)

@casablanca Hi Casablanca - you are right about cooler - very much cooler! But the high rainfall suits the rainforest - and it is different rainforest to the tropical ones - very different undergrowth and lots of lichen.. Cheers :)
