Surfers Paradise had a weekend of live music. We went in by the new tramway. It's great for ease of travelling but not so hot for sightseeing - all of the windows have mesh on them - with adverts on the reverse side.
Pity you can't see what's on the other side. One thing I enjoy when travelling is sitting close to a window and taking shots of whatever I fancy as we pass by.
@sangwann@caterina@casablanca@ulla@gamelee@suzanne234@golftragic Hi Dione, Caterina, Casablanca, Ulrika, Lee, Suzanne and Marnie -- I'm sorry to be replying to you all at once but I realized I didn't say that this was at night - the mesh won't let you see out at night. In the daytime it's not too bad - you can see where you are going and you get a pretty good idea of the things along the way. The adverts are somehow painted on the other side of the mesh sections and you look through them. Many thanks to all of you for your interest and comments, sorry if I had you thinking the Gold Coast is dreadful!! :)
@robz Does the mesh work like shutters and keep the temperature down? I remember travelling by train in Sydney but they didn't have these on the windows. Gold Coast is hotter, of course!
@casablanca It would be nice to think our council did it for us!! But no - it's mainly revenue raising with the ads. It may also help hide any graffiti scratches that appear on the glass. The mesh is on the outside of the glass. Oh - and the trams are all air conditioned - they are very new and a great way to get around. And summer sure is hot here nowadays!! :)
@robz Air conditioning sounds nice right now.........it was almost 30 degrees here yesterday, a tad hot for dear old Blighty! A little cooler today - top temp of 25 due, but still way too hot for this wilting English rose LOL!
@casablanca Ohh - it would be nice if it was still warm in a few months!! We really have very little idea of what to expect temp wise - bit tricky when you're trying to travel light. Is your hot weather muggy too - that always makes it worse!!
@robz I shall hope for a warm Summer here for you! Just have layers. If you have a fleece and a lightweight waterproof jacket, that covers most eventualities! It can be humid if hot but it is rarely hot in September, sometimes just pleasantly warm. Can’t remember if you are August or September. Would you like my email? Happy to help with any queries and we may be able to manage a cup of coffee amid your travels maybe?
@casablanca Thank you so much for your offer - I would love your email - even if it's just to beg for some local input when we do something stupid. And a cup of coffee somewhere would be awesome. We are in London from the 21st Sept to the 25th Sept
