Eastern Spinebill

These had always been very shy and hard to catch. This one must have decided we're not too bad. He landed on the wire beside me and stayed there for a minute or so - enough time to actually catch a photo of him. They have a nest in our back yard - our first batch of spinebill babies!
Nice capture. Yes, they are hard to catch, the way they move. Would love to see the babies when they arrive.

You nailed the focus on this one!!! Are you using "portrait" mode to get such DoF?

@granagringa Hi Granagringa - no - I hadn't thought of doing that. But I was very close to him and was using the macro setting with the centrespot light metering. I must admit I never quite really know what the background is going to do... Thanks for your nice comment! :)
