This started out as an entry for the Pet's Parts Challenge - but ended up as quite a lesson learned. Week 47 of the 52 week challenge asks you to "Step Back" - ie edit a photo - leave it for a day or two - go back and have a look and see what you think. The original is top left. The first edit involved slightly darkening the left hand side of her face to accentuate the right. When I went aback I realized her head wasn't straight so I straightened it. When I went back again I thought her nose was distracting - I wanted to have her eyes as the main "part" - so off went the nose. My choice - top, right hand image - after just the first edit. Lessons learned - always save the original until you sure you're happy, stop fiddling while the image still has authenticity (her head is always on the side as she listens to you - never straight!!).
Good lesson- and good examples! I think if you were solely going for the eyes, you could have cropped the shot even more- like a panorama. But your favorite is very sweet- and like the tilted head-it shows a little personality.
@caterina Hi Caterina - I had to laugh when I read your comment - I wasn't trying to make it a lecture - but I guess it's second nature for an ex-teacher. :)
@olivetreeann Hi Ann - I like your suggestion of the pano type shot. I did have a go at a more severe crop - but I couldn't make myself use it - it really showed up that her poor eyes are showing signs of her age. She's nearly 10 years old. Thanks for your help! Cheers Rob
