@robz Oh yes, no real rain for months now. Anywhere that's not being watered is a dust-bowl if there's no ground cover. Huge cracks in the ground down at the park. Very serious stuff IMO. As for the Riverina (NSW) where my son farms he had a zero water allocation this past season. Rather hard to take while the cotton farmers suck out water at the top end of the system, and the South Australians have guaranteed high security water allocations thanks to a deal dating back to Federation. So he's sitting there watching the water flow past going south.
@golftragic I have to agree with you about all that you have said - especially the cotton farmers in W Qld. There must be something else they can grow that isn't so water demanding. The worst thing is that I'm dreading now that this will all become the norm - ridiculous hot summers and virtually no rain. Your son must be finding it very distressing - as are many farmers. We'll have to keep our fingers crossed - but unfortunately I don't believe in all of that! :)
