This enormous bird was part of the Swell festival on the beach. It was made entirely from plastic rubbish. It had lots of admirers, and funnily enough, the real life version was actually included in Australia's Bird of the Year list of 50 birds. It scored extremely well in the voting with many people sympathising with its modern suburban lifestyle.
The Blue Fairy Wren was the ultimate winner.
Thanks to all of you for your kind comments on this fellow, and for being kind enough to not mention that the horizon is very crooked! and that the photo is actually all a bit fuzzy... Not much free time for us at the moment so apologies for not noticing earlier. :)
Hi Diana - it's an Australian white ibis - which is apparently closely related to the African Sacred Ibis. They have unfortunately earned the name "Bin Chicken" because they are clever enough to successfully scavenge and survive in areas where their native habitat has been turned into suburbia. @ludwigsdiana@casablanca@peadar@tonygig@koalagardens@gamelee@wakelys
Itâs a very good sculpture. Love the look of the âfeathersâ. I usually notice a crooked horizon, but the subject was so interesting it flew right by me. I wouldnât have noticed at all, but I read your follow up remark.
