Pick the weeds... by robz

Pick the weeds...

2 ( or 3 - depending on your definition) of these are weeds.
All are wild flowers???

The bees still visit, I hope

Even weeds are pretty. I heard a definition that a weed is a plant in the wrong place. Nice collage!

Great collage raising a perennial (excuse the pun) definitional problem

Weeds are just wildflowers growing in the wrong place. They're all pretty wildflowers!

Beautiful images and a very nice arrangement. Here is a quote to fit: “Once in a golden hour i cast to earth a seed, up there came a flower, the people said a weed.” Tennyson

The ones on the left😊

But weeds are beautiful too, especially when macro. Nice collage.

What a super weed selection!

Beautiful collage. Weeds can be so beautiful.

I'd say the two on the left and I'm wondering if the wattle like flower could be mimosa.

A lovely weed collection

@30pics4jackiesdiamond Hi Jacky - it took us ages to work out what is what up here - so different to the coast. Bottom left is a weed of national significance ( WONS) - fireweed - can kill stock! Top middle is anew weed we've only noticed this year - as if we needed more! Middle right is an apple flower - fine if you're actively caring for them - a weed otherwise, which is us - but our old orchard is so gorgeous in spring that we leave them be. Cheers Rob

@joysabin LOL Joy - the bees love them all - especially the apple flowers. :)

@carole_sandford Hi Carole. I've heard that said too - and it's probably ok most of the time - our old orchard is probably best regarded as a lot of weeds - but it's gorgeous in Spring.. Our main problem is that some of these are toxic and some of them crowd out the natives we love - like the tiny ground orchids. It's all a bit tricky.. Thanks for your interest. Cheers Rob

@ankers70 Hi Suzanne - I loved your pun. We're trying to learn to like some of them that aren't too invasive - and are too tricky to remove. The apple orchard is one example. :)

@olivetreeann Oh Ann - if only they were. It's all a bit of a balancing act - which to target - which to ignore. Cheers Rob

@shutterbug49 Hi Debbie - I loved your quote! And it's so apt! :)

@wakelys LOL Susan - you have no idea of the emotional response some of these engender when we see them in the paddock - hate is probably not too strong a word. The bottom left yellow one is Fireweed - it's toxic to cattle and one plant can spread 10,000seeds in one season. It takes over whole areas! They are our most targetted weed - it's never ending. It's probably not good for our mental health.... We probably need more to do with our time. LOL Thanks for your interest. Cheers Rob

@pusspup Hi Wylie You picked the worst one - the Fireweed on the bottom left. It's a Weed of National Significance (WONS) and can kill stock.

@casablanca LOL Casablanca - some are good guys - top left, bottom middle, top and bottom right. But - it's hard to tell which are "good guys" and which aren't when you first move into the area. It's taken us ages - and we still mess some of them up!
Cheers Rob

@merrelyn Hi Merrelyn. The one you were wondering about is actually an endangered wattle which is found only in our area - so it is a bit different. I'm pretty? sure that the top right is a native, along with the bottom middle and top left. It's taken us ages to become accustomed to what is what up here - it's very different to the coast. It's been a big learning curve. Thanks for your interest. Cheers Rob

I know the problems. I used to live on acreage where we had to deal with ragwort, fireweed, blackberries, gorse. You name an invasive weed and we had it. And I also empathise with the emotional response they engender especially after you've cleaned out an area and they're right back again and the work starts all over again!
