Barkley Roadhouse by robz

Barkley Roadhouse

Starting the trip across the top - 2839 km from Mt Isa in Qld to Broome in WA, with a far bit of nothing exciting in between.
Roadhouses are the only places to stop in several sections - this was our first one and one that the road trains also use. There are only two trucks shown in this photo - both trucks are trailing four sections loaded with assorted water tanks, cars, earth moving equipment etc
Approx 53m to overtake on whatever section of road you happen to meet them....
Wow- and I thought we had some big transport trucks here!

Guess you need patience if stuck behind these.

@pusspup Hi Wylie - at the moment we're taking the pretty standard direct road to Kununurra - with a few days at Daly Waters, Bitter Springs and Timber Creek. We need to be at Kununurra for the start of the Kimberley Cruise on Odyssey. The countryside at the moment is spectacular after the rains! A lot of water about and some very interesting natives flowering. It's actually a pretty good drive compared to other times we've gone across - although there's still some bad wash-outs on the highway. Cheers Rob

@ulla Hi Ulrika - you would love the countryside at the moment - we've had lots of rain and everything is actually quite green and very beautiful. The roads pretty cut up though. Cheers Rob
