In the even drier regions closer to Lightning Ridge the country is very poor - farmers have built huge irrigation systems (quite controversial because, when it does finally rain, they catch large amounts of water which would otherwise flow into inland river systems) and they grow cotton on huge expanses of land. The cotton heads are harvested and rolled into huge yellow cylinders. The cotton is then cleaned and seeds are removed in the cotton gins in the region. The cotton is then exported.
Very interesting Rob, I know that cotton's becoming more popular as a crop and expanding further south quite quickly. But I didn't know about the rolled bales bit. Thanks for sharing.
After seeing your request for critique... I’m not sure what you use for processing but I’d like to the the shadow brought up on bottom of shot...that’s where the main interest is and I have to struggle to make it out
@madeinnl Hi Ko - this isn't one farmer -these rolls have been brought into here from many farmers - the building at the back is the cotton gin - where the cotton gets cleaned up and sticks etc taken out of it. I'm not sure how much a roll is worth - but I think this may be a lot of money sitting here. Cheers Rob
@jgpittenger LOL Jane - I should have worded my request more clearly. Nearly all of these will be pretty much SOOC while we are travelling - there are too many to muck around with them. My camera is also quite limited with what it allows me to control - so anything taken when we are in the car is pretty much pot luck. Hopefully, when we get home again and settle down I can have a better go at producing something that you may be able to offer some help for - if it doesn't take too much of your time. Thanks very much for being so ready to lend a hand!! Cheers Rob.
