Banksia seeds in their pods. by robz

Banksia seeds in their pods.

The beautiful Girraween banksias have these great cones with the seeds trapped inside the individual scales seen here. The seeds are only released after a fire - so it's a bit difficult to get a photo of a banksia seed individually. He did seem interesting for the Macros-seeds challenge.
Wow that is some seed! great macro

@sarahlth Hi Sarah - thanks for commenting. These are a bit weird - there is an old series of children's books based on the Banksia Men - these things were brought to life with eyes and lips etc. Bit odd - right up there with The Potato Head Men!!

Looks very intricate and so interesting it takes a fire to release them.

@brender Hi Brender. It does seem amazing that the yellow flower shown on the rock produces this weird concoction. I don't know if they are found in other countries but they seem very well adapted to Australian conditions.
