Longer exposure - no panning!! by robz

Longer exposure - no panning!!

At least she was still recognizable!! I actually quite liked the way she appears to be moving. Still practicing the long exposure - haven't even thought about the b&w effect yet... And recovering from the first panning experiment - leave that for a later day!
I am sooo impressed...almost to the point of jealousy....wow...how are you doing this without overexposing???

@granagringa Hi Madeline - you make me feel guilty ! - more often than not these are hit and miss. I can only use the "program" setting in the daytime - the "long shutter' and "fireworks" ones will cause a long exposure - but then I can't control anything else and it does all go white. With the "program" setting I can make the light metre just read the centre of the focus square, the colour as vivid, the white balance as cloudy, the ISO as 80 or there abouts and the exposure bias as +something not too big. This all makes the shutter stay open long enough to use in the daytime - sometimes it is a bit overexposed and I have to play with the editing. This seems to let me do the ICM shots and these sort of things - but I can't do any longer exposures in the daytime. It's all pretty much a gamble - lots get deleted - or turned into abstracts!! LOL.. Thanks so much for saying how much you liked it - I really appreciate it - it is very encouraging!!! Cheers Rob

I think this has worked well with the lines of the shelter sorting of framing the figure. Stations are good places for trying this sort of shot I think as most people are a) in a rush so moving fast and b) don't really notice you! Have fun.

@photobird Hi Photobird - thanks for the positive feedback - much appreciated. And it funny how you have immediately pin pointed why I tried these people as subjects!! :)

Well done! We are going to have a workshop on long exposure soon. I'm looking forward to it. I like how she's got a semi-ghostly appearance to her.

@olivetreeann Hi Ann -I'm glad you like it - it was only about 1/10 sec to get that movement. Your workshop should be great - you will probably learn all of the tricks which take so long to figure out by trial and error. it's a bit funny - but I'm finding that the more you muck around with various different things the more boring the straight photos seem. My husband hates all of the odd body ones!! Cheers
