An almost successful panning shot...

It appears that these would be much easier if the screen continued to show you the subject while the shutter was open! I tried this as a b&w but it was dreadful. To work at all it needed the colour. b&w panned shots must have to be really good to be any good!!
I tried this and found it really difficult. My next camera is going to have live view. Think you've done well with this.

@fbailey Thanks FB - I agree with the really difficult bit!! I'm guessing that the live view means the screen still works? That would make it much easier!! :)

My D4O doesn't and never has had live view, too old! I have to peer through the viewfinder. Am so envious of people who can just hold their camera at arm's length and look at the screen ...

I can't do panning, given up trying!!! This looks good to my eye!!

@fbailey So if you were looking through the viewfinder when you tried a long exposure would you still be able to see the object while the shutter was open? I have no view finder and the screen just blacks out - so you can't see the object to follow it! Also, I can't turn the camera on its side if I'm outside = my sunglasses make the screen go black! The ideal thing would seem to be a view finder and a screen - but then you have to have a bigger camera that won't fit in your pocket! A real catch 22 situation. Anyway - we have an Aussie saying - " Life wasn't meant to be easy!!" Cheers :)

@granagringa Thanks Madeline!! It would be easier if the screen didn't black out while the shutter was open!!
