Devil's Gate by robz

Devil's Gate

This 60m wide passage is the entry point to Strahan Harbour and then onto the Gordon River (W side of Tassie) The worst convicts were shipped to an island in this harbour and put to work building ships from Huon Pine - which they had to log from the forests and bring down river to Sarah Island. There was basically no return from Sarah's Island so the convicts christened this entry "Devil's Gate" It s a narrow, rough and dangerous entry - our tour boat went out and back through it!
It looks rather blustery and cold- good shot.

Blooming scary place that, and full of bad history.

Like all the grey and white tones in this shot and including the railings in the shot adds to the chilly grey feel. Lovely shot

@olivetreeann Hi Ann - unfortunately it was very windy - spoilt all of the reflections that the river is famous for.

@golftragic Very scary - through the 60m gap and then there's sand bars and rocks!

@photobird Hi Photobird - thanks for your nice comment. The multiple grey tones were a bit of compensation for the rain - but we missed the famous river reflections. The water's black from tannin and reflects beautifully.

@cruiser Hi Chris - Tassie seems to be the land for great photos and awful history!
