Gordon Dam by robz

Gordon Dam

There were 4 dams built to produce the hydro-electric scheme in the centre of Tasmania - this is one of them - the Gordon Dam. It is a remarkable structure - a little like a small Hoover Dam. It appears that the Tassie Gov had dreams of it becoming a tourist destination. A lot of infrastructure was put in place but most of it is now not maintained or actually removed. We are not sure if this was associated with the World Heritage Listing. It is still possible to climb down onto the dam wall and walk its length. Fantastic engineering!!
Wow - love those great sweeping lines!

@dkbarnett Hi Delwyn - it is very impressive - the lake has that black water so gives wonderful reflections. It is used for the hydro power so they remove water from it all the time. It was definitely down quite a lot - dead tress showing in parts.- made good photos - even dead. :)
