The moors near Bakewell - grass and heather.

We wanted to walk on the moors and this was our best opportunity. A kind local explained to us that the peat caused acidic soil which prevented most trees from growing. Grasses, heather and bracken fern grow and large expanses of open moorland results. This moorland was situated on a high plateau with steep cliffs descending into the valleys below. It was fabulous.
