It must have been the off season - these towers were right along the length of the wharf. They were huge - it made it very obvious that this is a dangerous occupation - controlling these things on a moving, rocking, plunging boat must be a nightmare.
There's a restaurant along the Maine cost near one of Maine's famous lighthouses that use these crab pots to make a Christmas tree. They light it all up for the holidays. It's so fun. Great way to store them in the off season!
@30pics4jackiesdiamond Hi Jackie - we just finished the Hurtigruten Cruise - it was really good - we saw so much wonderful scenery and the boat was small enough to be very personal - no onboard entertainment but absolutely amazing food and very friendly people. Really good fun and a bit of a break from moving along so quickly. :)
@jgpittenger Hi Jane - I just had to Google Oregon to see where you are - I'm sorry to say I'm pretty ignorant about the various states of the USA - and I just realized that you are towards the Canadian border and have Portland as your capital. My girls have been to Portland and absolutely loved it - raved about it actually! I can see you do have a long oceanfront - so does your fishing fleet also catch the KIng Crabs - they are so impressive! Nice eating too!! :)
@golftragic These are crab pots extraordinary - so large - but then the crabs they catch are also enormous!! Errol and I had 1 claw each for lunch - it had as much meat as a full, adult sandcrab!! And it was good - better than lobster I believe!
@robz we did a hurtgruten Northern lights cruise a few years ago, as you say excellent food and service and Norway is sooooo pretty. Glad you had a great time
