It's confession time - I've done the boy thing and never actually read the manual that came with my camera. So it's been trial and error and play with settings. But yesterday I found a funny little button with 3 choices - I'd never actually even noticed the button before! So, now I know - one of these choices lets my camera go into action for itself. Once you click on a shot it goes ahead and alters what seems to be a random selection of settings and produces 6 (I think it's 6 each time?) different outcomes for you. This collage shows 5 of the options produced automatically from one shot. It's a bit like magic..... :)
@kali66 Hi Kali - I was so pleased to read your comments. It was great to read that you are still using yours after 6 years. I think I will end up the same - they are such good little cameras - easy to use and so easy to stick in a pocket. And the more you play with them the more you discover. Cheers Rob. :)
@jyokota Thanks so much Junko - and it is lovely to hear from you. I am keen to see some more of your wonderful images from your current meet-up. Cheers Rob
@robz -- we are having such fun together on our meetup. Ukandie! joined us yesterday and will on other days as well. Wish you lived closer and could join us!
@jyokota Thank you so much Junko - that would be wonderful. One of the good things about 365 is that you meet so many lovely people from around the world - but one of the sad things is that they are many miles away.... Have fun. Cheers Rob
So nice to hear that you did the same! my father got always furious when i didn't read the manuals............ that's probably the reason i almost never do!
@robz Yeah, absolutely. Back in the last Ice Age, our Matric (Year 12) Physics master spent hours helping a (normally) very bright student with some prac only to find that she hadn't read a critical piece of the instructions! When we went into the lab the next day there was a big sign right across the top of the blackboard: When All Else Fails, Read the Instructions!
@robz I checked out that lilly pilly this morning, no chance of my being able to pick enough fruit to try the jam. But will keep my eyes open for more accessible sources. I've copied and filed the recipe.
@golftragic I think I'm going to have to follow your physics teacher's advice as I'm just waiting for a IR camera to be delivered. It's a converted Nikon D70. I've never used a "proper" camera so this is going to be interesting - and because it's second hand I don't even know if it will ave a manual! Exciting times!!
If you're brave enough to try the lilly pilly jam I might as well have a go at doing something with whatever ends up on our fruit tree. It seems a waste to not use them.
Heading to Adelaide today for a fortnight in the area - it's our 40th anniversary - so this is a it of a celebration. Should be fun.
Cheers for now Rob
@robz Oh wow, an IR camera, that should be a buzz for you. If it arrives without a manual, there may well be one on online which you can just save as a pdf for future reference. I've been tempted from time to get an IR camera, but then wonder whether or not I'd use it enough to make the purchase worthwhile. Even more so since I've just bought a new iMac to replace my aging machine. I really can't see me trying the jam unless I can find a friendly neighbour with a tree, but no luck yet. Have fun in Adelaide, I love that city, have been tempted to move there more than once. Adelaide is the size of the Melbourne I grew up in, not the bloated version there these days. Saw a piece in the Geelong Addy yesterday with the council crowing that Geelong and the Bellarine peninsula's population could grow to 1.1 million by 2040 (not that I'll still be around then, would be 98!), but it's already sprawling and more busy than I like. I came here for Sleepy Hollow, not a receptacle for Melbourne's overflow. If we were 20 or even 10 years younger, I'd definitely leave Geelong for somewhere quieter. Did I say that I'm an ardent supporter of ZPG?
@robz I'm sure Felicity @FBailey or Joy (Walks @ 7) @joysabin would be able to help with the IR learning process, they both produce very good IR images.
@golftragic Thanks for your reply. I'll definitely have a search for a manual and download it - I'm going to have no idea how to take even a normal photo on one of these cameras. And FB has been wonderful - she helped me buy the camera and has since sent me a step-by-step outline of how she produced her fabulous IR photos. She was actually the inspiration for me even thinking of getting one. It will be a whole new learning curve and is quite exciting.
Your Geelong sounds like our Gold Coast - and the reasons you have given for thinking of moving are why we now spend most of our time in Stanthorpe. It's still a little, friendly country town. We arrived in Adelaide last night - it is indeed a much smaller version of a capital city. But it has some great restaurants - we had dinner ( 40 years yesterday) at Sean's Kitchen at the Casino - it was amazing! Errol so badly wanted one of the 1.2kg Riverina T-bone steaks that he saw being flamed and finished in a pizza oven! We had no hope of eating it! Anyway - it was an excellent dinner out with some new foods for us - plump, juicy naturally smoked oysters ! and cauliflowers poppers - yummy!
Anyway - enough about food! What is ZPG?
:)
@robz Sounds like we're on the same page Rob. Unfortunately, both of us really need to be not-too-far-away from the excellent medical facilities we have in Geelong, which makes retreating to the bush just a pipe-dream. The food sounds totally yummy, but just as well that Errol didn't tackle a 1.2Kg steak, might have spoiled the whole night. ZPG = Zero Population Growth, the Club of Rome, mid 1960s.
