Yesterday (Monday) was a public holiday in Malta and so we took the opportunity to spend a long week-end in Gozo. The weather was gorgeous and we had a great time with my brother, sister and their spouses. Pictures to follow.
In the meantime, as I have mentioned already, Friday night of the previous week-end a storm developed in the Mediterranean Sea, exactly in the channel between Sicily and Malta and since the winds were North Easterly, Malta had to withstand the brunt of the storm which continued till Monday morning, though after Saturday it was less intense. Like I said before, Saturday morning, after breakfast I grabbed my camera to go and capture some shots of the rough seas which had developed. The first sight that caught my attention, immediately I went out of the door was that shown in the picture. Tall cypress trees in the driveway of a neighbour at the other end of our street had all toppled over onto the driveway of the resident across the road. Thank God it wasn’t on my end of the road because I had one of my cars parked on the road just opposite.
Then news media on Saturday said that the storm had uprooted many trees around the Maltese Islands and large branches broken off others. Also some private properties, boundary walls and the national football stadium were damaged (most of them slightly) and there were some power cuts due to damage to electricity lines and poles; some photovoltaic panels were broken or blown away as well as watertank lids from rooftops.
Thank you all so very much for your wonderful comments on my Etna series.
