Sunday before last. The celebrations of the feast were at their climax. This is the main square close to the parish church – Spinola Bay. Light festoons line the bay, food kiosks drink kiosks, kiosks selling toys or imitation jewelry or other accessories lined the street on either side of the road. The road, a main traffic artery was closed to traffic – creating traffic jams elsewhere – to allow the procession to pass through and people to stroll along the road and enjoy the passing of the procession as well as the fireworks which were let off at very short intervals from a barge in the middle of the bay, culminating with a fireworks display when the statue reaches a certain place. This is Malta. We have 5 such feasts in Sliema during Summer not counting other feasts in places very close by, such as San Gwann (where I live) Gzira, Msida, and others.
I took this shot from a car park near the main entrance of the Parish Church which is situated up a small steep road, just above Spinola Bay.
Many thanks for looking and for your lovely comments on yesterday’s picture.
