The Museo delle Antichità Egizie is the only museum other than the Cairo Museum that is dedicated solely to Egyptian art and culture. The Egyptian hieroglyphs Jean-François Champollion, who came to Turin in 1824, ”. famously wrote, “The road to Memphis and Thebes passes through Turin”. The collections that make up today’s Museum, were enlarged by the excavations conducted in Egypt by the Museum’s archaeological mission between 1900 and 1935 (a period when finds were divided between the excavators and Egypt).
This hall contains the larger items on display with figures of Pharoahs and/or their consorts and their gods in granite stone or marble. The wall of the hall is lined with glass reflecting back the great items on display.
Many thanks for looking and for your lovely comments on yesterday's picture.
That sounds like a great museum. We have one nearby in Philadelphia that has a small but impressive Egyptian collection. I've been there a couple of times and really enjoy it. You've done a nice job in capturing this gallery.
