In addition to the Mdina Main Gate, there are two smaller secondary gates giving access to Mdina. This one is Greek’s Gate and is at the ditch level. It is named after the small Greek community who lived in this area. The design of the gate, particularly the columns and the roof, are akin to those in classical Greece.
It is said that the slaves, who were not permitted to use the main gate, were let in through this entrance. The gate was restored by Grand Master de Vilhena, to whom the city owes so much.
I thought this would be the last shot of Mdina for some time but this weekend there is a Medieval Mdina festival there and yesterday I went with my brother, Joe, to watch activities. I took over 200 shots so expect some more pictures of Mdina in the coming days after I upload them and decide which to post.
Thank you very much for looking and for your lovely comments on yesterday’s picture. TOMORROW: JEFF AND NICK – THE STORY CONTINUES.
Wonderful shot . Love the shot through the arch, when I first saw the picture it looked like one of the gates into Jerusalem. A great picture to draw. A fav
