This is the interior of the Balluta Parish Church all lit up for the festa. On the right you can see the velvet drapings around the place where the titular statue of Our Lady of Carmel rested for the one week before the festa. At the moment of this shot the statue is being carried in procession around the old streets of the parish. It will later be returned to its niche.
This is a relatively new church. When I was young I remember it being built around and over a much smaller church which was not then a parish church. They had to knock down some of the beautiful houses to make way for the bigger church. When the stonework of the new church was complete, the workers pulled down the old one.
