View large if you have time; thank you.Sunday, 29th December, was a fabulous day for me, photography-wise, when I had a whole day of photo-shooting opportunities.
Continuing on my narrative, from Xagħra we returned to Għajnsielem to go see their ‘Bethlehem live crib show. On the way we stopped for a coffee in the village centre and here I saw the local parish church beautifully lit up for the festive season. I had to take some shots of it – although I didn’t have a prop to steady the camera on. The Christmas tree in the village square was made up of empty plastic water bottles.
Ghajnsielem parish church, built in gothic style architecture, is a relatively new church. Its foundation stone was laid on 14 September 1924 and it took a long time to build. It was blessed on 27 August 1978 and consecrated on 18 August 1989. It replaces a smaller church in honour of Our Lady of Loreto which was built by 1820 and which still stands. I got into conversation with a local who said the current population of Ghajnsielem is around 3,000 but when the first stone was laid there were only a few hundreds. I was amazed how such few people could gather all that money to build a monument like this.
Thank you very much for looking and for your lovely comments on yesterday’s picture.
Glad you had a chance to photograph this 'tree' and the church. It is really a piece of work all lit up at night! I have a shot of this but at a different angle which I never got to post. Well Done!
