It is Fort Rinella again. This is a 100-ton ‘Armstrong’ front-loading gun dating from the late 19th century. Only four of these huge guns were built by the British – two were placed in Malta and the other two in Gibraltar. The fort was built in 1884 especially to house this gun and the troops who worked it. At the time Malta was under British rule. Both the guns installed in Malta, which had a reach of three miles, were never fired in battle. The second gun was at Fort Cambridge in Sliema which today is just a few stones.
I have made Max pose for me near the gun to show you its size.
Thank you very much for looking and for all the kind and lovely comments on yesterday’s picture.
I`m not a big fan of shooting but I like the old fashion fabrication of this big gun.
Funny it is you get tired from a 2 x 2 1/2 hour train journey and a 3 hour show. You are sitting all those hours .
WOW, I would think it would be hard to control being as large as it is. I do know though, if I seen it pointed at me, I'd probably poo my pants!! Great capture and showing the size of it with Max posing next to it. He's really dwarfed isn't he? FAV!
Good gracious, it is big, isn't it? It must have taken a lot of muscle power to load and fire it. Max's presence gives a good idea of scale, nice capture.
