Took this shot when we went to Mdina to see the antique watches exhibition. I had to post it in view that the last time I’ve been inside this cathedral was between 35 and 40 years ago so at that rate this was the last time I entered the cathedral.
This is Malta’s cathedral and seat of the Maltese archbishop. Dedicated to St Paul, the patron saint of Malta, it was designed by Maltese architect Lorenzo Gafa and built between 1697 and 1702. It replaces a Norman cathedral which was destroyed by a strong earthquake in 1693 which caused a lot of damage to buildings in our old capital. The earthquake which had its epicentre around Sicily destroyed whole villages and killed many people in Sicily.
Thank you so much for looking and for all the lovely comments and the fav's on yesterday's picture.
What a beautiful, beautiful building and the paintings and architecture is stunning!! I wonder who the painter was? The seating doesn't look too comfortable though!! Love your POV and hope you enter at least one more time!! FAV!
