I took this shot in late September before Michaela and Max (my grandchildren) started their new school year. When I take them out with me I take the opportunity to go to places that are not in my normal routine. This is an area I very rarely visit so I have to make way for some shots I took on that day.
This is Verdala palace, which today serves as the official summer residence of the President of Malta. It was built in 1586 during the reign of Grandmaster Hugues Loubenx de Verdalle. It stands on a former hunting lodge built by Grand Master La Valette in the 1550’s in Buskett which is the Maltese version of Boschetto (small forest), a large semi-landscaped area that was used by knights of the Order of Saint John for game hunting.

I was very disappointed yesterday. The day before, the weather forecast said that we would have rain, strong gusts of wind, very rough sea and even hail. So I decided that this time I would go to Grand Harbour to try to take some dramatic shots of the sea but all I saw was a slight swell. On the way back home, I heard on the radio that those travelling on the Gozo ferry during the night had had a very rough ride. Conclusion: the sea had either calmed down or the harbour area is very well sheltered from the direction of the rouch sea. The rain came but no hail.
gorgeous capture of this place! thanks for the history!
You need strong wind for dramatic waves crashing. Can be very powerful if they crash over harbour walls!
