Triton is a son of Poseidon and Amphitrite in Greek mythology. Tritons are minor sea gods represented as men with fishes’s tails.
This is one of three tritons that form the Triton Fountain just outside of the main entrance to Valletta. This beautiful fountain needs extensive repairs. The large and very heavy bronze dish was originally held up by one hand of each of the three tritons. In the 1970’s a stupid decision by the government of the time to use the fountain for carnival celebrations damaged the arms through which the water pipes of the fountain passed and a column was erected to take the weight of the disc and through which new water pipes could be installed for the fountain to work.
Yesterday I heard that action for the necessary restorations are to start soon.
Thank you so much for looking and for all the comments and fav’s on yesterday’s picture.
