FRONT AND BACK

Or is it top and bottom? Chose yourself but for me it’s top and bottom.
In Turin I suggested to JP and Ian that we go see one of these three important sites:
• The Turin Cathedral, where ‘The Shroud of Jesus’ is kept
• The Royal Palace of the Savoia
• The Egyptian Museum
I had been to all three so I left it to them to choose and they decided we go to the Egyptian Museum. The funny thing I found is that whereas when I was there in 2012, I was told I could go in for free as a senior citizen, this time I had to pay the full fare as the arrangement for senior citizens had been discontinued. In the end I didn’t mind as I enjoyed myself still, being very much interested in Egyptology.
These are two of the hundred of shots I took inside the museum. A sarcofagus as seen from the top and as seen from the bottom. Actually the two do not form one sarcofagus. In this glass ‘niche’ there were the mummies of three buried sisters, Tapeni, Tamit and Renpentnefret, daughters of the head of the workshop of the temple of the god Amon. They date from around 600-700B.C.
About the museum - it is the world’s oldest Egyptian museum; founded in 1824, it ranks second only to Cairo. Dedicated exclusively to ancient Egyptian culture and art, the museum's collection has been the subject of interest for some of history’s most important scholars, for instance Jean-François Champollion, decipherer of the Rosetta Stone. To such is attributed the fact that Turin is considered to be the city where Egyptology began. Intriguing displays. I always want to read everything there is about the items but too often the people with me are in too much of a rush. Guess I need to take a picture of all the written stuff so I can read it later.
