JP’s defeat – it didn’t nudge.
This is the 100 ton cannon at Rinella Fort. I have shown at least one other shot of it some time ago. Only four of these front-loading guns were manufactured and two of them were part of Malta’s defences and placed in strategic forts facing north on each side of Grand Harbour. As far as I know only this one is still on display.
JP was on vacation leave the other day and he decided to accompany me and my brother to Rinella Fort where my brother’s grandchildren where part of a camping party at the fort. I was talking to one of the few employees on the premises and he told me that unfortunately few people visit this beautiful and well-kept fort and the reason is that tourist operators do not advertise the place. The fort is under the care of Din l-Art Ħelwa a philanthropic society. There is a nice little military museum in the ex-living quarters of the fort.
Thank you so much for looking and for the comments and fav’s on yesterday’s picture.
Do they have Facebook and Instagram pages for the fort? They could get people who do visit or know about it to share, and gradually awareness will rise. I've found out about some amazing tourist attractions on social media.
Great picture - love all the different colours. Thanks for the information, very interesting. What a shame the place isn't on the tourist trail, they are missing so much. Katharine
