I was amazed to see the artistic skills of the tile makers and layers of this beautiful church floor. This is one of the shots I took at St Michael's Church in Anacapri (upper town of Capri). Not one tile is the same as the others. I took the shot from a wooden balcony above the entrance of the church.
This wonderfully preserved floor dates from 1761 and was created by Leonardo Chiaiese, one of the best ceramic artists working in Naples in the 18th century.
As for the church: it was built from 1698 to 1719 and was founded by a nun from Capri named Mother Serafina di Dio. Today it is home to the Congregation of the Immaculate Conception who look after the preservation and maintenance of the church.
